The following is a report on the operation of Japan Layout Alliance (JLA) as of March 2026.
The JLA is a voluntary effort to organize compatibility issues related to the bottom row (around the space bar) of Japanese keyboards and to reduce the perception discrepancies among manufacturers/sellers/users.
The JLA badge is not an official certification mark, but an indication to assist in self-declaration.
1. major updates over the last month
The most significant updates in the past month have been the listing of Keychron and Kopec Japan Inc. on the registry.
2. participating companies/organizations (registry)
The following companies and organizations are currently listed in the JLA Registry (listing is based on each company’s public agreement).

This registry does not imply official certification or product quality rating. JLA is a private voluntary organization unrelated to JIS/JISC or other public organizations.
3. status of application forms (JP/EN)
Participation applications are accepted via the form, and an auto-reply email will be sent after submission (the form uses form-mailer).
The guidance in case you do not receive an auto-reply is also clearly indicated on the form.
The form receives information such as brand/company name, contact person, official URL, participation category, and JLA class (JLA-450 / JLA-425), and also clearly indicates the items (logo, company name, JLA class, and official URL) that will appear in the registry.
An English-language application conduit (EN form) has also been developed to accommodate participation from overseas brands/partners.
4. operation flow up to publication
After the application is submitted, the secretariat will confirm the contents of the application (description, URL, participation category, JLA class, etc.), and if necessary, additional confirmation will be made before the application is reflected in the registry.
We will continue to update the registry and guidelines based on actual product trends and feedback from the field.
