GreenEchoes Studio has begun piloting AI-assisted editorial quality checks as part of an effort to strengthen the review process for articles published by its specialist media outlet, Greenkeys.
The checks focus primarily on reviews and columns, examining their logic, scope of verification, technical explanations, and writing, and are being tested as a way to support editorial review.
Communicating what hands-on testing confirmed and the scope of our analysis
Reviews and columns deal with different kinds of information, including facts confirmed firsthand, manufacturers’ explanations, and the author’s impressions and analysis.
For readers to use an article as a basis for judgment, it is important to make clear the grounds and assumptions behind each point, as well as what has not been verified.
This editorial quality check examines articles primarily from the following perspectives:
- Do the assumptions behind the explanation support its conclusions?
- Are there any claims that go beyond what was confirmed through hands-on testing?
- Could any explanations of how a product works or of technical terms be misleading?
- Are facts, user impressions, analysis, and unverified points clearly distinguished?
- Is any wording likely to be misunderstood by readers?
Editors make the call based on the nature of each article
AI flags passages that may need review, while editors decide whether to accept the suggestions and what revisions to make.
Expressions that reflect an author’s perspective—including impressions of using a product in a review or hypotheses and questions raised in a column—are also part of Greenkeys’ content.
We are refining the criteria so editors can determine, based on the article type and verification performed, where further supporting evidence is needed and where a point should be presented as the author’s view.
Improving the review process through actual article production
As part of this initiative, we run the editorial quality check in WordPress and are reviewing its feedback on actual articles.
We are piloting this as a review process separate from translation, and are currently assessing the scope and strength of feedback appropriate for reviews and columns.
By adding an editorial step in which editors review AI feedback, we aim to catch oversights made during writing and make it easier for readers to understand an article’s assumptions and scope of verification.
GreenEchoes Studio will continue working to improve the quality of its communications through both article production based on hands-on testing and interviews, and editorial processes that verify the content.
